David Korten: Capitalism's Threat To Democracy
American economist David Korten earned his PhD in business administration from the University of Stanford, and has since made it his life's work to expose the imperial systems of economic rule that oppress people all over the world, incite people to oppose these systems, and propose plausible alternatives to capitalist globalization. He is known for having written a number of books on these topics, including When Corporations Rule the World, 2001,and Alternatives to Economic Globalization: A Better World Is Possible, 2004, neither of which I have read. Regardless, he seems to know what he is talking about.
In this series of videos, all between 12 and 20 minutes long, Korten explains, in layperson's terms, exactly how our economic system undermines the potential for democracy, and then describes, with almost prophetic eloquence, what people all over the world, but especially citizens of the United States, need to do to stabilize our collective well-being once again.
I found all of these videos on Cooking Up A Story.com. I'm new to the site, but it looks like they post a whole bunch of awesome stuff up there, so I'm posting links to the pages on their site where these videos are embedded.

BBC's The Century of the Self
The Century of the Self - Full Length Documentary
This British television series, four hours in total, tells the story of how Sigmund Freud's theories about human nature influenced the decisions of the business and political leaders of the last century. Although a highly recommended watch, it is obviously written for separated television broadcast, and it ends up reiterating itself eventually, but it's worth it. You'd never see anything like this on American television, and acclaimed documentarian Adam Curtis explains why with priceless interviews shuffled between jaw-dropping revelations. I watched all four parts in one sitting, but if you don't have the time right away, here are links to the individual episodes:
Part One: Happiness Machines
Part Two: The Engineering of Consent
Part Three: There is a Policeman Inside All Our Heads, He Must Be destroyed
Part Four: Eight People Sipping Wine in Kettering
Adam Curtis made all four episodes free to distribute, and they are also available to watch or download at Archive.Org
